GOING BEYOND THE SIMPLE FIBER
An exciting piece of work just came out, and I am glad to have been part of it.
By now, many people appreciate the beauty of spinning fibers under mild, aqueous conditions at room temperature. But what if we could go one step further and endow those fibers with additional functionalities?
In this study, we explored exactly that: the possibility of spinning fluorescent protein–based fibers, made possible through careful protein engineering. This work serves as a proof of concept that bio-functionalized fibers can indeed be produced, and importantly, under environmentally friendly conditions.
A big shout-out to the team (especially my colleagues and friends Tomas, Benjamin, and Anna), who consistently deliver outstanding work and make collaborations like this a real pleasure.
